Police report confirms arson caused Charlotte Maxeke 2021 fire
The recent fire at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in April 2021 has been confirmed as an act of arson by a police forensic investigation. The Gauteng provincial government has asked the State Security Agency to investigate the circumstances leading up to the fire as reported by IOL.
Despite Gauteng Health’s denial of the hospital not meeting fire regulations, a statement by the DA reveals that the Gauteng Premier confirmed the findings of the forensic investigation.
The SSA has recommended various measures, and the Gauteng Health Department has been directed to implement them.
The DA is calling for the hospital CEO to face disciplinary charges and for the report to be made public.
The health department spokesperson declined to comment, as the matter is with the Premier’s office, SSA, and police.
