Police are currently seeking eight suspects in connection with an ATM bombing that took place at a filling station near the Mamelodi Mall during the early hours of October 4.

Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, a police spokesperson, stated that the incident occurred at 02:30.

According to van Dyk, a petrol pump attendant on duty reported that the group arrived in a white Hilux without registration, with some individuals seated in the back.

He mentioned that the suspects exited the vehicle, with one firing a warning shot and instructing the attendant to lie down.

Van Dyk further added, “Another suspect demanded the attendant to fill containers with petrol, informing him that one of his associates had already taken his tag.”

The group attempted to bomb the pay point window twice but were unsuccessful, as explained by van Dyk.

Subsequently, they resorted to forcing open the door, breaking it, and then proceeded to bomb the drop-off safe.

“They absconded with an undisclosed sum of money and 5 liters of oil,” noted van Dyk.

Van Dyk also mentioned that one of the suspects was armed with an automatic rifle, and shots were fired as they departed the scene.

He confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with all leads currently being pursued.
