Brooklyn CPF election postponed

Published

on

Brooklyn residents in the east of Pretoria were unable to proceed with the election of a new CPF executive on October 2 as originally planned. This delay was attributed to the failure to establish the sub-forum committees.

As per Captain Adriaan Bekker of Brooklyn police, the Constitution mandates the election of sub-forums before the executive. Following this setback, new election dates have been scheduled, and residents are called upon to attend the election meeting on October 22.

He mentioned that the sub-forum elections are set to take place from Wednesday to Friday. Captain Bekker expressed his commitment to overseeing these elections to ensure a seamless process leading up to the election of a new CPF on October 22 to collaborate with the police in combating crime.

Residents are encouraged to partake in the elections.

The executive election event is planned to be held at Elim Full Gospel Church, Duxbury Road in Hillcrest, opposite Brooklyn police station. District police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk outlined that the CPF has six vacant positions, including chairperson, deputy chairperson, secretary, deputy secretary, treasurer, and public relations officer, which require filling.

All residents, concerned organizations, partners, stakeholders, and business owners within the Brooklyn policing precinct are urged to attend the elections. Van Dyk emphasized the crucial role of CPF in enhancing community safety and its collaboration with the police in crime prevention and combat operations.

He stated that CPFs significantly strengthen police efforts and serve as a vital bridge to the community in promoting safety. Eligibility criteria for election candidates were detailed by Van Dyk, including good standing, exclusion of certain personnel such as SANDF, SAPS, reservists, or correctional service officers, private security company owners or employees, non-South African citizens, those holding political positions, and a minimum age requirement of 18 years.

The Brooklyn policing precinct encompasses the following suburbs:

– Sector 1: Brooklyn, Hatfield, Hillcrest, Koedoespoort, Lynnwood North, and Persequor Park.

– Sector 2: Alphen Park, Ashley Gardens, Bailey’s Muckleneuk, Hazelwood, Maroelana, Menlo Park, Nieuw Muckleneuk, and Waterkloof.
