Eldoraigne-skool vier 50ste bestaansjaar
Hoërskool Eldoraigne is celebrating 50 years of growth, community, and success, aiming to become a school for future generations. Established in 1974 with the first intake of 103 boys, 120 girls, and 14 staff members from nearby primary schools, the school’s culture was shaped as students wore their primary school uniforms and helped plant grass for a sports field.
Over the years, Hoërskool Eldoraigne has evolved significantly. Acting Head Dave du Plessis shared historical telegrams showcasing the school’s communication methods. The school buildings were constructed using a trial-and-error method to accommodate the overflow from Hoërskool Voortrekkerhoogte, utilizing prefabricated components installed on a steel frame designed to handle the dolomite rock base of the area.
However, it was later discovered that the school was not built on dolomite rock, yet the resilient design continues to reflect the ethos instilled by educators in the approximately 1,400 students. Du Plessis expressed optimistic anticipation for the future of Hoërskool Eldoraigne.
He emphasized the significant role of the community in the school’s success, emphasizing the importance of community trust to retain students. The school also attracts former students to return as educators, with 18 staff members having made this transition.
Deputy Head Simone Grobler, one of the former students who returned to give back to her alma mater, highlighted the immediate respect she received upon her return as a student-teacher. She praised the school for providing numerous opportunities throughout her life and emphasized her belief in the institution’s values and mission.
Grobler acknowledged the strong foundation built within the community over the past 50 years, stressing the ongoing work to maintain and elevate the school’s unique qualities, including advancements in sports programs and academic offerings like civil technology and agricultural studies.
