The Baragwanath Hospital Comforts Committee (BHCC), a registered hospital and clinic outreach NPO, selected The House of Yay at The Marc in Sandton as the venue for commemorating their 70th anniversary.

Guests were encouraged to bring their artistic talents on September 14 to participate in an activity aimed at bringing joy to newborns by creatively transforming baby sleepsuits into unique pieces of art.

BHCC’s chairperson, Cheryl Wagner, highlighted how the event paid tribute to the organization’s core values and mission.

“Today’s team upholds the same values as the founding committee and embraces the spirit of generosity and commitment to improving the lives of others,” stated Wagner. “Every volunteer embodies a sense of altruism and positivity that motivates us to carry on the legacy of our founders from 1954.”

Wagner noted that since its inception, the organization has relied on the dedication of volunteers who generously give their time to support its initiatives. She also reflected on the significance of BHCC and the purpose behind the art created using the baby sleepsuits during the event.

“The South African public healthcare system is expected to face numerous challenges in the future, and we understand that our small team, along with our donors, make a positive impact on the lives of underprivileged patients and overburdened healthcare providers. These artworks will be donated to new mothers and infants in post-natal wards and ante-natal clinics.”

The organization’s activities focus on three main areas: meeting the essential needs of hospital and clinic patients, running the Bread for Life feeding program, and providing transportation grants.

BHCC’s goal is to conduct monthly outreach programs targeting patients at various public health clinics and hospitals across the greater Johannesburg area. The organization collaborates with social workers, therapists, and healthcare professionals to assess the needs of these patients.

For further information, BHCC holds monthly meetings at a venue in Pineslopes, Fourways, and can be reached at 073 601 0502.
