Armed Faerie Glen traffic light ‘terroriser’ nabbed
A multi-stakeholder operation led to the arrest of an individual for allegedly terrorizing commuters and motorists at a traffic light located on the corner of Atterbury Road and Manitoba Drive in Faerie Glen, east of Pretoria.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk stated that the arrest took place on Wednesday immediately after the suspect had reportedly robbed another victim.
The suspect is currently facing charges of armed robbery, possession of stolen property, as well as possession of a dangerous weapon (firearm). Van Dyk mentioned that the suspect was found in possession of replica firearms, which were allegedly used in the robberies.
Brinant Private Security group spokesperson Emile Rheeder reported that stakeholders received information regarding an armed robbery at the intersection of Atterbury and Manitoba, which occurred at approximately 07:30.
Rheeder further explained that a member of the Garsfontein Sector 2 CPF witnessed the robbery and promptly notified patrollers, law enforcement, and private security firms.
Following the alert, the teams initiated a search for the suspect while ensuring effective communication and closing off exit routes to prevent escape.
Rheeder disclosed that the suspect, matching the clothing description provided, was subsequently apprehended. The suspect, believed to have been terrorizing commuters for weeks, was found in possession of two imitation firearms and stolen items, including a laptop, a Samsung phone, and a charging dock.
Authorities from the Garsfontein police station have initiated legal proceedings by opening a case file and detaining the suspect.
