Pretoria West businesses are encouraged to join the Pretoria West Business Forum to address crime in the area. This call was made during a formal meeting between Pretoria West police and the forum on September 25.

Members of the Pretoria West SAPS Sector Command and Social Crime Prevention were present at the meeting. The primary objective of the meeting with the forum executive committee was to enhance the relationship between businesses and the police to tackle crime in the region.

Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, Sector One CPF members, the chairperson of the mother body in Pretoria West, Joseph Nkhumise, and other business representatives attended the meeting.

Police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma stated, “The purpose of the meeting was to revive the forum, outline the way forward for active promotion, and encourage all business individuals to join the forum by spreading awareness.”

All participants agreed to engage in grassroots efforts to revive and expand membership. The current structure is subject to re-election if new members join.

“SAPS invites all business owners in Pretoria West to inquire about participating in the forum and to provide ideas for combating crime involving businesses,” Vuma added.

Former forum chairperson Zahid Afzal Jhamat mentioned plans to visit businesses door-to-door this month to recruit for the upcoming meeting on October 10, where elections will be held.

Jhamat expressed the goal of uniting all businesses in Pretoria West to enhance police-community relations. The forum aims to educate businesses on trading regulations, compliance, and crime reporting while conducting workshops.

Businesses in Pretoria West often lack awareness of legal requirements, leaving them vulnerable during police operations. The forum’s mission includes bridging the gap between the community and law enforcement.

Jhamat emphasized the importance of a strong forum to promote prosperity in the area, particularly given the significant business activity in Pretoria West.
