Areas in the west and central parts of Johannesburg can anticipate a 12-hour water interruption on October 2 as the metro plans to conduct maintenance work on the Salvokop Reservoir. This essential maintenance will lead to a water supply interruption from 08:00 to 20:00.

The following suburbs will be affected:

  • Arcadia Ext 6
  • Arcadia, west of Eastwood Street
  • Muckleneuk, north of the rail line
  • Pretoria Central, south of Visagie Street
  • Pretoria Ext 15
  • Pretoria Town and Townlands 351-JR
  • Prinshof 280-JR
  • Prinshof 349-JR
  • Salvokop Ext 1, 2 and 3
  • Sunnyside
  • Trevenna

Residents are encouraged to implement the following water-saving tips to assist in alleviating the current situation:

  • Avoid watering or irrigating gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.
  • Refrain from washing vehicles with hosepipes.
  • Avoid filling swimming pools.
  • Consider installing low-flow shower heads and tap aerators where feasible.
  • Opt for a dual-flush toilet cistern.
  • Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden.
  • Use a broom instead of a hosepipe for cleaning driveways or patios.
  • Collect rainwater for reuse in the garden or car washing.
  • Cover swimming pools to reduce water evaporation.
  • Take shorter showers instead of baths.
  • Turn off taps while brushing teeth or shaving.
  • Regularly check for leaks in toilets and taps.
  • Avoid filling storage tanks to allow the system to stabilize.

The metro extends apologies to the impacted customers for any inconvenience caused. For further information on the matter, please contact [email protected] or call 083 625 4114.
