East reservoirs show improvement after repairs
Reservoirs displayed signs of improvement on October 1 following low levels caused by the Mapleton Booster Pumping Station being disabled due to power trips over the weekend. Despite this, parts of the east of Pretoria are still facing water outages, as reported by the Tshwane metro.
Water has gradually returned to several affected areas in the east of Pretoria.
Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo stated that on October 1, Rand Water, the water utility, informed the metro that repairs by Eskom technicians at the Mapleton Booster Pumping Station were successfully concluded the previous night (September 30).
The inlet of the Bronberg water system was reopened.
Mashigo mentioned that the restoration of power supply to this station offers hope to the impacted areas and will significantly benefit reservoirs directly connected to the Bronberg water system.
He further added that the recent update indicates the pumping load of the water system is operating at 100%.
Observing the levels of certain reservoirs affected by the Mapleton power failure, an improvement was noted this morning.
Mashigo attributed a noticeable increase in water storage capacity to lower demand overnight, in addition to the repairs conducted by the technicians.
Some of the city’s reservoirs have shown improvement overnight; however, the following areas were still affected by the water outage:
- – Parts of Mamelodi
- – Tyger Valley
- – Doornkloof Agricultural Holdings
- – Mooikloof Ridge
- – Six Fountains
- – Shere
- – Hazeldean
Water tankers will continue to be deployed to supply water to affected consumers.
