Tshwane prioritises service delivery in Soshanguve
The Acting Tshwane mayor, Nasiphi Moya, led a successful delivery initiative in Region 1, Soshanguve in the north of Pretoria on September 27.
The initiative is part of the metro’s ongoing efforts to maintain essential services while a stable government is being formed.
Joined by officials from waste management, horticulture, and the Expanded Public Works Programme, the acting mayor focused on pressing community issues, beginning with a clean-up of Buitekant Street in Block FF.
Moya said the area had been plagued by overgrown fields and illegal dumping, prompting immediate action from metro teams.
“The initiative included pruning overgrown trees and weeds, alongside removing waste from various dumping sites near Giant Stadium.
“Our efforts extended to improving road safety and visibility as officials worked to repaint road markings and repair potholes on Marula Street, Block FF,” said Moya.
She said the regional team also improved street lighting on Mokhetle Drive, Block UU, which was crucial for the safety of residents navigating the area after dark.
She emphasised the importance of addressing electrical infrastructure as well and stated that efforts would be made to replace stolen electricity cables along the R80 highway.
“The safety of residents at night remains a key priority for us.
“It is vital that we continue to provide services while we await the formation of a stable government because our residents will not suffer due to the absence of a mayoral executive.”
