CPF delivers day of excitement and education
The Lyttelton Community Policing Forum (CPF) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) organized a notable event for residents last Saturday. The SAPS Kids Day event featured a blend of education, entertainment, and community involvement.
The event showcased various emergency vehicles, including helicopters, fire trucks, police cars, and ambulances, allowing children to interact closely with them. Participants had the chance to explore the vehicles, engage with first responders, and gain insights into the roles of police officers and firefighters.
One parent commended the event, stating, “Our kids learn about law enforcement at school, but this event provided a firsthand experience of the daily responsibilities of a police officer or firefighter, demystifying these professions and fostering trust.”
The highlight of the day was the SAPS Airwing demonstration, featuring impressive aerial maneuvers that captivated the audience, especially the younger attendees.
Adding to the excitement, the SAPS staged a realistic reenactment of a hijacking scenario, incorporating actors, a compelling storyline, and simulated rounds, offering both entertainment and educational value. While some found the performance intense, many were engrossed by the dramatic portrayal.
To infuse a sense of fun and cheer, the Paw Patroller mascots interacted with children, posing for photos and creating a lighthearted atmosphere.
The event concluded with a water-themed finale, as the fire department allowed children to spray and be sprayed by the fire hose, providing a refreshing and exhilarating conclusion to the memorable day.
The Lyttleton CPF expressed gratitude to all contributing organizations, including the SAPS, Lyttelton, Bidvest, Protea Coin Chopper, SAPS Airwing, Tshwane Metro police and fire departments, Reggie Rhino, ER24 EMS, Quatro and Domino Bull security companies, Fidelity, ADT, and the SRU (Strategic Response Rescue Unit), for their support in making the SAPS Kids Day a success.
The event underscored the commitment of the Lyttleton CPF and SAPS to community safety and education, marking it a resounding success.
