Urgent meeting scheduled to address water woes in Tshwane
The Tshwane metro is facing potential water supply disruptions due to a power trip at the Mapleton Booster Pumping Station, located in Ekurhuleni.
The interruptions are as Rand Water reported an incident, which occurred at 07:00 on September 29.
According to Tshwane, the report was after the East of Pretoria faced a water outage.
“The metro has already investigated the cause of the power trip and has identified a faulty surge arrestor as the culprit. In response to this critical issue, a Joint Operations Centre meeting is currently underway between officials of the City of Ekurhuleni and Tshwane,” said Bokaba.
Bokaba said the meeting aims to assess the necessary interventions required to restore power and ensure the continued operation of the Mapleton Station.
He continued, “Without a reliable power supply, the Mapleton Station can’t pump water to Rand Water’s reservoirs in the Eastern part of the metro, directly affecting the water supply to Tshwane’s reservoirs. Metro officials have emphasised the urgency of the situation, as prolonged outages could lead to water shortages for residents.”
He said officials are working diligently to address the power issue in Ekurhuleni and are committed to providing timely updates to the community as development unfolds.
Residents are urged to stay informed and prepare for possible disruptions in the water supply as technicians work to resolve the situation.
