A Pretoria trainee police, who went missing on September 19, was found safe and unharmed by his parents and police in KwaZulu-Natal.

Tristan Chowles (23) was admitted to a hospital in Pretoria east on Wednesday, September 18.

Prior to his disappearance, Chowles was undergoing a 9-month Basic Police Learning Development Programme (BPLDP) at the Tshwane Police Academy.

Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said Chowles was discharged on Thursday, September 19.

He was last seen leaving the hospital. A large scale search was launched.

Mathe said a missing person’s case was opened at the Garsfontein police station.

She said the police confirmed that Chowles was found unharmed.

Mathe said the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his absence without authority and approval from the training academy.

She said any gross misconduct will be dealt with according to the memorandum of agreement between SAPS and the trainee.
