New Garsfontein CPF focuses on better crime-fighting approach
The newly elected Garsfontein Community Policing Forum (CPF) plans to be extremely strategic when combatting crime.
Strategies would involve an improved use of technology for better co-ordination, said the newly elected Garsfontein CPF chairperson Aris Ruyter.
Residents in the east of Pretoria recently embarked on CPF elections to choose legislation that will bolster police work, and play a role in integrated crime prevention and crime combatting operations.
The Garsfontein CPF covers areas in the east of Pretoria serviced by the Garsfontein and Silverton policing precinct.
Sectors in the Garsfontein Police Precinct include:
– Sector 1: Lynnwood Manor, The Willows
– Sector 2: Faerie Glen, Parts of Olympus
– Sector 3: Garsfontein, Pretorius Park
– Sector 4A: Moreleta Park, Plastic View
– Sector 4B: Constantia Park, Waterkloof Glen (north of January Masilela Drive)
Ruyter said the new CPF wants to integrate new crime-combating approaches such as increasing patrol visibility, acting on intelligence, and fostering a co-operative environment where crime is discouraged.
“We will work closely with security companies, the police and TMPD, drawing from the Alpha Security Forum’s principles to prioritise the safety of the community.”
He added that the new CPF’s main priorities are enhancing community safety through collaboration with residents, police, TMPD, and security stakeholders.
“We aim for transparency, effective crime prevention, and rapid response. These principles will guide our voluntary efforts in decreasing crime and making our communities safer.”
Ruyter said by maintaining open communication and transparency, they aim to build trust and make every resident feel part of the solution.
“We will actively listen to the community, provide honest updates, and involve residents in our efforts.”
He said the CPF will cover all sectors in the Garsfontein precinct, including residential and commercial zones, ensuring comprehensive community support.
Ruyter added that by focusing on proactive measures like intelligence gathering and community vigilance, they aim to create a safer environment.
According to Ruyter, success will require community involvement, collaboration with local security companies, and resources like equipment and training programmes.
“We depend on the community and local businesses for support.
“We will keep the community informed about our activities and decisions through regular updates and open forums. Transparency and accountability are central to our approach, guided by the principles of honesty and integrity we uphold.”
Ruyter said every organisation encounters challenges to become even better.
“We anticipate challenges such as co-ordinating with multiple stakeholders, sustaining community engagement, and managing resources. As a voluntary organisation, we will address these challenges to the best of our ability, adapting as needed to meet the evolving security needs of the community,” he concluded.
