Large parts of Pretoria and Centurion were left without power this morning should return tomorrow
Large parts of Pretoria and Centurion were left without power this morning after electricity pylons collapsed on the N4 highway between Simon Vermooten Road and Solomon Mahlangu Drive. According to councillors, several substations were affected by the outage, and some areas could be without power for several days as reported by Pretoria Rekord.
Initial reports indicate that heavy rain and strong winds caused two electricity pylons to collapse across the N4 highway on Sunday evening, resulting in a multi-vehicle accident. Paramedics from Pro Med EMS responded to the accident, finding multiple high-voltage cable structures collapsed over the highway, causing vehicles to collide.
Two people sustained moderate injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment. Ward councillors in the affected areas said that power could take between a day and a week to restore, as the N4 and Solomon Mahlangu Drive remained shut on Monday morning while the cables were being cleared off the roads to ensure safety for tomorrow’s workday.
