Dricus du Plessis toasts Drake for betting against him
UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis caused a huge upset over the weekend when he defended his title against Israel Adesanya.
The Nigerian-born contender tapped out in the fourth round of their championship fight at UFC 305 in Perth. Many UFC fans placed bets on their favourite contender, including Canadian rap superstar Drake.
The Sticky rapper placed an R8m bet on Adesanya to come out on top. It wasn’t meant to be and the Drake ‘curse’ struck once again when Du Plessis executed a rear naked choke to take the win after rocking the ‘Stylebender’ to take Adesanya down, reported Daily Mail.
In true Du Plessis style, the South African took to X (formerly Twitter) to thank the rapper for betting against him. “From the bottom of my heart once again. THANK YOU @Drake,” wrote a bemused Du Plessis.

South African fans shared their thoughts on Drake’s unlucky gambling streak.
“Drake is the worst gambler EVER! Well done, Champ! Making SA proud!” said podcast review account Disclosed Awareness.
Film director Ofentse Mwase commented: “Drake just keep betting against the Champ, and we’ll keep the legacy of your Curse alive!”
“Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie. NO DNA JUST RSA boys worldwide,” wrote stan’s account Dr Stan_Kruger.
The highly anticipated event was a big deal for Du Plessis, who walked into the ring flanked by Springbok superstars Siya Kolisi and Eben Etzebeth.
I will forever respect Siya and Eben Etzebeth for this moral support they’ve shown to our retained UFC Champion Dricus Du Plessis. This moment will go down in history books .
