This afternoon, the Johannesburg High Court will deliver the bail status on the Kirsten Kluyts murder accused. Kluyts’ lifeless body was discovered in October in George Lea Park in Sandton; the woman had been unable to finish a park run.

According to Jacaranda FM, the man accused of the culpable homicide of Kluyts, a primary school teacher who was pregnant at the time of her murder, was arrested the following month. He has been in custody since December, when his bail application was rejected. These are valid charges that have been laid against him, including premeditated murder, rape and robbery.

The accused has been produced in court and was present more than once. It has to be said that during his last appearance in May, the case was scheduled for July. The accused would say that he came across the body of Kluyts lying at the bottom of a dam and that he stripped her naked to take her clothes but not to sexually penetrate her.

However, the accused in this case was caught on the CCTV cut wearing a blue T-shirt that belonged to Kluyts and was produced in court. The court refused to release the accused due to actions taken to ensure that there was little or no evidence linking him to the crime.

This morning, the accused may present his appeal, and the judge will rule whether he will be kept in custody until the trial or set free.
