Police said they are searching for the kidnappers of two ActionSA members on Tuesday evening.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said the ActionSA members were kidnapped around 20:00 in Olievenhoutbosch on Tuesday night.

“The victims were found just before midnight in Benoni, and they have been safely reunited with their families.”

Muridili said SAPS Olievenhoutbosch received a complaint of a hijacking and kidnapping and immediately activated the necessary resources, including members from the SAPS Tracing team, Organised Crime Investigation, Matrix vehicle tracking company, as well as a Netstar helicopter.

“The victims were hijacked and forced into their vehicle, a Toyota Hilux. The suspects drove away with the victims and dropped them off in Benoni area.”

She said investigations are underway to trace the vehicle and the suspects.

Meanwhile, ActionSA national chairperson Michael Beaumont, Gauteng Premier Candidate Funzi Ngobeni, and Youth Forum Chairperson Hluphi Gafaneare were unharmed but undoubtedly shaken by this experience.

The party is grateful to SAPS members. The overwhelming support and concern from fellow citizens deeply humbled the officers.

“It is requested that Ngobeni and Gafane be afforded the space to recover from their ordeal with their families before a more substantive briefing of these events can be provided.”

Both Ngobeni and Gafane are in good health.

“We can confirm they are in good health despite what must have been a harrowing experience. They, along with their families, are deeply moved by the love and prayers of the ActionSA family as well as the overwhelming outpouring of support from South Africans. ”
