Following the explosion and fire at the Mooikloof substation, the City of Tshwane announced on Thursday that power had been restored to most parts of Pretoria East. According to Jacaranda FM, last weekend’s blaze caused significant damage, destroying a transformer and distribution panels. The city reported that electricity has been reinstated in several areas, including Mooikloof Estate, Parkview Shopping Complex, Woodlands Mall, Woodhill, The Wilds, Pretoriuspark extensions, a portion of Moreletapark, and MK Rural Line.

Tshwane MMC for Utilities Themba Fosi stated, “The city is pleased to inform our residents and stakeholders that our technical teams have made good progress in restoring power to affected communities following the recent fire incident at the Mooikloof substation.” He added, “We are pleased to announce that our technical teams are working diligently to address some of the remaining issues while most of the repairs have been completed.”

However, power restoration efforts faced setbacks as Mooikloof Ridge Estate experienced a temporary restoration until a cable fault plunged the area into darkness. Additionally, Boardwalk and Olympus remain without electricity. Fosi assured, “Our team is actively addressing this issue. An investigation is ongoing after tripping during the switchback at the Onbekend Rural Lines.”
