The redevelopment project of Parkdene Boulevard officially commences as construction starts. It is central to retail service provision in the growing suburb of Parkdene in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni. The expected opening date is October 2024. The project, led by Abland Property Developers and Retail Africa with partners Nedbank CIB and the Groups, has to redevelop the 32.000 sqm centre and improve it as a centre point in the East Rand Region.

Parkdene Boulevard, strategically positioned on a major thoroughfare, has long served the local community and surrounding areas. However, its outdated appearance prompted a comprehensive overhaul, especially in light of Parkdene’s ongoing redevelopment and residential expansion, which have increased demand for modern retail amenities.

Grant Silverman, Director at Abland Property Developers, expressed enthusiasm about the project’s potential to meet Parkdene’s evolving needs and provide an elevated shopping experience within the burgeoning node. The redevelopment plan includes expanding the centre’s footprint and modernising the existing Checkers Hyper, a longstanding anchor tenant.

Throughout the construction phase, existing tenants like Checkers, Checkers Liquor, and Spec Savers will remain operational, with measures in place to minimise disruptions. New tenants, such as Crazy Plastics, Dis-Chem, Edgars, and various dining options, will diversify the retail mix and cater to the community’s evolving preferences.

Richard O’Sullivan, Executive Director of Retail Africa and a Boksburg native, emphasised the significance of the redevelopment in revitalising an established retail destination. Drawing from his connection to the area, O’Sullivan highlighted the project’s commitment to enhancing the local shopping landscape while fostering community engagement.

The revitalisation initiative extends beyond retail, with plans to introduce landscaped green spaces and additional amenities to enhance the overall customer experience. With construction progressing as scheduled, the transformed Parkdene Boulevard is poised to emerge as a vibrant retail destination by October 2024, offering a blend of convenience, variety, and modernity to residents and visitors alike.
