Six Armed Suspects Apprehended En Route to Alleged Robbery in Sandton, Police Report
In a major operation during the weekend, Gauteng police apprehended six armed gangsters who were headed to commit a robbery in Sandton. According to IOL, the gang was arrested in the marked courier car and their Toyota bakkie before they could execute their plan on Sunday. Colonel Mavela Masondo, spokesperson for Gauteng police, confirmed that they got information about the gang’s plan. The flying squad patrol from Johannesburg spotted the cars on N1 southbound. It pursued them until intercepting them at M1 South in Sandton.

Police confiscated two rifles, three handguns, and live ammunition. The would-be robbers face charges of illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, and conspiracy to robbery. Masondo declared that further investigations would point to the link between weapons and other criminal activities.
Gauteng police commissioner Lt. Gen. Tommy Mthombeni lauded the Flying Squad’s prompt action and the public’s continuing cooperation in the fight against crime. Collaboration between law enforcement and residents was highly emphasised as a tool for creating a safer environment in Gauteng.
