There are at least 800 unemployed doctors in SA. This issue poses a considerable challenge in the healthcare sector.

Per EWN, Minister of Health Joe Phaahla revealed that his department is actively working to identify suitable vacancies for these unemployed doctors.

Phaahla made this statement during a media briefing on the department’s initiatives to tackle unemployment in the healthcare field. He highlighted that the pressing issue needs urgent intervention.

The number of unemployed practitioners has mainly been attributed to budget constraints within the healthcare system.

Phaahla said the department has already advertised over 200 positions, with 239 posts currently available for recruitment across various provinces.

“Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, and Free State have quite a number of those positions readily available,” Phaahla noted, underscoring the regional distribution of opportunities.
