Consumer Commission Evaluates Pick n Pay Peanut Butter Recall
The National Consumer Commission is monitoring the recall of some peanut butter products by Pick n Pay.
The retailer announced on Saturday that it is taking its No Name Smooth Peanut Butter, Eden Smooth Peanut Butter, and Eden Crunch Peanut Butter off the shelves due to health concerns.
The group is urging customers to return the products with an expiration date of July 2025.
Previously, in-house standard testing found the products to have higher than regulated levels of Aflatoxin, which may mean a health risk.

National Consumer Commission spokesperson Phetho Ntaba said the commission is in the process of assessing the recall notification.
“We want to urge South Africans who are in possession of the recalled products to stop using or consuming the products, as they are not safe for their health. We say to South African consumers, take the product to the point of purchase for a full refund.
“We can confirm that we have received a recall notification from Pick n Pay on Friday. At the moment, the commission is assessing the recall notification, also looking at their communication strategy and other nitty-gritties around the recall.”
Pick n Pay said all affected stock had already been removed from its stores countrywide.
No other peanut butter brand at Pick n Pay is involved in the recall.
