Robbers bomb ATM during load-shedding

The ATM at the Sasol petrol station on Rangeview Road, McKenzie Park, was bombed. As reported by Benoni City Times, the suspects stole an undisclosed amount of money at 02:00 on 28 March.

According to Captain Nomsa Sekele, the spokesperson for Benoni SAPS, ten suspects attacked unsuspecting petrol station and shop employees during load shedding.

“The suspects held the staff at gunpoint and demanded cash and mobile phones,” she said.

“Shortly thereafter, the cash machine exploded and the suspects fled the scene.”

“Due to load shedding being in effect at the time of the incident, descriptions of the getaway vehicles are not presently available,” said Sekele.

“It is clear that the criminals took advantage of this to carry out the bombing.”

The police have opened a case of business robbery and ATM bombing, which investigators will attend to.

Anyone with information that can assist the police should call CrimeStop on 08600 10111 or log on to the MySAPS app.
