Cilliers Brink was elected as the new mayor

On Tuesday, the DA’s Cilliers Brink was elected as the new mayor, defeating Ofentse Molausi of Cope by seven votes. As reported by Jacaranda FM, Brink got 109 votes, while Molausi managed only 102. In his inaugural speech to the council, Brink promised that the multi-party coalition would concentrate on constructing a city that benefits all its inhabitants.

“We want to establish a capital city that benefits all of its residents. One that enhances the living standards of the impoverished and provides opportunities for people to climb the social ladder. We know in our hearts that this city will only be a pleasant place to live if it is a pleasant place to live.”

Brink identified the city’s dangerous financial situation as his top priority.

“We must gain control of Tshwane’s finances and ensure that our spending is aligned with what the city can realistically collect. This is a crucial task, as it responds to the findings of the auditor-general.”
