Alleged Insurance Killer Agnes Setshwantsho Returns to Court

In the ongoing legal saga, the case of insurance killer Agnes Setshwantsho, accused of the heinous crime of murdering her niece for insurance money, is set to resume in the Molopo Magistrate’s Court with the continuation of bail proceedings.

Jacaranda FM reports that Setshwantsho faces multiple charges, including murder, two counts of fraud, and defeating the ends of justice, all stemming from her alleged involvement in the death of her niece, Bonolo Modiseemang.

Anticipated on Friday, the bail verdict was deferred to Monday at the state’s request, which sought additional time to prepare a response to new information presented by Setshwantsho’s defence.

Henry Mammothame, the North West National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, explained, “During submissions from the defence attorney, it emerged that they had new information not contained in their original affidavit they used as evidence in their application for bail.”

The state contends that Setshwantsho, apprehended in Centurion last November through a sting operation, poses a flight risk. The court also heard allegations of threats made against the life of investigating officer Sergeant Keshi Mabunda.

Sergeant Mabunda, notable for his involvement in the arrest of convicted insurance killer Rosemary Ndlovu, testified as a state witness, revealing ongoing investigations into additional deaths potentially linked to Setshwantsho.

In response, Setshwantsho’s lawyer, Nhlanhla Mahlangu, accused the state of sensationalising the case. Mahlangu emphasised that his client’s health would be compromised if she remained incarcerated, and her right to prepare adequately for trial would be affected due to limited consultations with her legal team.
