Allegations of NSFAS Corruption: OUTA Plans to Escalate to Ramaphosa, SARS, SIU, and PP
OUTA is taking a firm stand against corruption allegations surrounding NSFAS. It will escalate these concerns to various authorities.
According to EWN, leaked audio recordings released by OUTA last week suggest that service providers linked to NSFAS’ new direct payment system might have paid significant kickbacks. The alleged recipients include Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande, NSFAS board chair Ernest Khosa, and the South African Communist Party, to which Nzimande is affiliated.
OUTA contends that these payments were made in exchange for tenders and protection, creating what they describe as a corrupt patronage network. In response, OUTA is calling for the resignations of Minister Nzimande and Chairperson Khosa.
Wayne Duvenage, OUTA’s CEO, emphasised the need for accountability. He stated, “There’s a lot of detail in there, but the long and short of it is that there is a patronage network that is fraught with corruption, and we believe that people should be held accountable, and this goes right the way to the top, to the minister.”

OUTA has also committed to sharing the incriminating recordings and a subsequent report with key investigative bodies, including:
- the Special Investigating Unit,
- the Office of the Public Protector,
- the South African Revenue Service, and
- the Auditor-General’s office.
Duvenage confirmed that preparations are underway to submit documents to President Cyril Ramaphosa.
