Tshwane Launches Bin Replacement Campaign Ahead of Christmas
In the spirit of the festive season, the Tshwane metro has initiated a bin replacement campaign to address the concerns of residents who have experienced the loss or theft of their wheelie bins. Residents affected by the recent wave of bin thefts, particularly during the current SA municipal workers union (Samwu) strike, now have the opportunity to apply for a replacement bin.
Ward 59 councillor Shaun Wilkinson highlighted the simplicity of the process, emphasizing that residents who have paid for bins monthly can apply for a replacement free of charge. The municipality aims to facilitate the replacement process for those who have faced the inconvenience of stolen or damaged bins in time for Christmas.

Addressing the issue, Groenkloof resident Mariah de Swart shared her experience of stolen bins due to extended waiting periods for refuse removal services. This sentiment has been echoed by many residents who, out of hope for eventual refuse collection, have left their bins in the streets, becoming targets for theft.
To request a replacement bin, affected residents must follow the standard application procedure and submit an affidavit explaining the loss. Tshwane authorities have urged those needing a replacement post-application to visit their nearest customer care centre for further assistance. The bin replacement campaign seeks to enhance the community’s well-being by ensuring residents have the tools for effective waste management during the holiday season.
