Eskom Attributes Stage 6 Load Shedding to Hot Weather: Check the Latest Schedule
In response to the recent electricity challenges, Eskom has released the latest load-shedding schedule, shedding light on the reasons behind the implementation of stage 6 load-shedding. The power utility explained that the current stage of load-shedding, attributed to hot weather conditions, is a result of increased demand due to a heatwave affecting five provinces in the country. Eskom stated that load-shedding was reduced to stage 4 from noon yesterday until 5 am today, followed by a shift to stage 3 until 4 pm. Subsequently, stage 4 will be implemented until 5 am on Tuesday, with this pattern set to repeat daily until Thursday.

According to Eskom, this strategic approach aims to replenish emergency reserves at power stations, a crucial measure to address the shortage of generating capacity. The abrupt escalation to stage 6 load-shedding on Friday caught the nation off guard, prompting Eskom to clarify that the heatwave-induced spike in demand for air conditioning and fans contributed to the strain on the power grid. Bheki Nxumalo, Eskom’s head of generation, conveyed this information during a media briefing on Friday, highlighting the impact of the prevailing weather conditions on the electricity supply.
