Committee Urged to Find EFF Guilty of Disorderly Conduct for SONA Disruption

Advocate Anton Katz, the initiator in the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) disciplinary hearings for disrupting the State of the Nation Address (SONA), emphatically asserted that the EFF must be found guilty of “grossly disorderly” conduct.

According to EWN, the powers and privileges committee charged EFF leader Julius Malema and five other MPs with contempt of Parliament and, despite the EFF’s absence, continued the hearings.

Advocate Katz argued that Malema and his colleagues displayed a lack of seriousness toward the SONA, violating decorum and dignity during the joint sitting.

Listing specific rules violated by the EFF MPs, Katz urged the committee to consider a 10-day suspension, including the day of the 2024 SONA, effectively barring them from attendance.

The disciplinary hearings will continue today.
