Woman Arrested in Gauteng for Unlicensed Firearms and Ammunition

In Ekurhuleni’s Duduza area, a 38-year-old woman was apprehended for possessing unlicensed firearms, rounds of ammunition, and a suspected stolen motorcycle. The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, revealed that the arrest resulted from a collaboration between the EMPD’s community liaison unit and the South African Police Service (SAPS) crime intelligence unit, as reported by IOL. Acting on information from a whistle-blower, officers targeted the suspect after connecting her to multiple robberies in the Duduza vicinity.

Upon arriving at a residence on Cool Breeze Street, the law enforcement team discovered the female occupant and, with her consent, searched. The search revealed two black 9mm pistols, an air gun, 22 blank ammunitions, 82 spent blank cartridges, and a motorcycle with defaced vehicle identification numbers (VIN) along with a helmet. The estimated value of the seized items amounted to R65,000.

Lieutenant Colonel Thepa emphasised that all relevant stakeholders were called to the scene. Despite the suspect claiming the items belonged to her absent boyfriend, she was arrested and taken into custody at the Duduza police station. Legal proceedings are pending, and the recovered items were logged at the police station for further investigation.

This incident follows a recent arrest in Ekurhuleni, where a 19-year-old girl was apprehended for drug-related offenses. Acting on a tip about her open drug dealing in the community, law enforcement took action to address the issue.
