Police detain 11 miners in Springs amid turbulent protest
Eleven miners from Gold One, affiliated with the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union, were taken into custody after engaging in a violent protest at the mine’s main entrance.

The demonstrators, armed with axes, knobkerries, and petrol bombs, clashed with police, prompting the use of teargas and rubber bullets for dispersal. The strike on Sunday saw the burning of a car belonging to a National Union of Mineworkers shop steward.
The miners are reportedly seeking representation from a different union. The Gauteng SAPS spokesperson confirmed the arrests on public violence and malicious property damage charges.
