Two Actonville children died after eating poisoned bread in a tragic incident that occurred on October 27, with another child of unknown age currently in recovery at the hospital.

This incident follows a similar tragedy in Soweto a few weeks ago when two four-year-old children lost their lives after consuming biscuits from a foreign-owned spaza shop.

According to district communications officer Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the heartbreaking incident unfolded when an unidentified man approached three children playing in the street at around 08:00 and offered them bread.

One child was a four-year-old girl who soon started to exhibit symptoms. Her condition caught the attention of her uncle. He rushed her to a local clinic. However, she passed away upon arrival.

Shortly afterwards, two boys from the same household exhibited similar symptoms and were admitted to the clinic for medical attention. Medical staff later transferred them to Tambo Memorial Hospital. Regrettably, one of the two children, a one-year-old boy, succumbed to the poisoning on October 5 while in the hospital, as reported by Sekgobela.

The age of the surviving child remains undisclosed at this stage, and the Actonville police have initiated inquest dockets to investigate the tragic incident. Authorities are appealing for anyone with information to come forward and contact CrimeStop at 08600 10111.
