A former government employee who provided services to the court is being charged with an alleged fraud amounting to R1.8 million

A former assistant director at the Department of Arts and Culture and an alleged accomplice were arrested by the Gauteng Hawks for a series of fraudulent transactions dating back to 2012. The two suspects were presented in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday as reported by News 24.

According to Colonel Katlego Mogale, a spokesperson for the Hawks, the former employee is accused of submitting fraudulent payment requisitions for three companies that never rendered goods or services.

The department incurred a loss of R1.8 million due to the submission of fraudulent invoices amounting to over R4.9 million.

The alleged accomplice was a service provider.

Both suspects and the companies involved are charged with fraud, corruption, and money laundering.

They were remanded in custody and will reappear in court on Tuesday, as the case has been postponed.
