Power Restored to Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Plant

Power has been successfully restored to the Rooiwal wastewater treatment plant following a recent fire incident at the Pyramid substation that disrupted the facility’s operations. The substation sustained fire damage during a storm, necessitating extensive reconstruction efforts. The plant’s power supply was temporarily rerouted to an underused power line. At the same time, the Pyramid substation underwent repairs to maintain the wastewater treatment process.

The comprehensive rebuilding project included demolishing the damaged structure and replacing panels, feeder cables, circuit breakers, a 132kV isolator, and essential transformer components. Tshwane’s spokesperson, Selby Bokaba, confirmed that the restoration was complete and that the power had been switched back to the original supply from the Pyramid substation. Technicians from the city ensured the stability of the electricity supply before making this switch.

In light of the sensitivity of the specialised equipment involved, the aeration necessary for the biological treatment of wastewater will be gradually initiated under the supervision of a contractor. Handling this process with care is crucial to avoid any disruptions or damage.
