Census 2022: Anticipating Tomorrow’s Release of Results
South Africa is eagerly awaiting the announcement of the results from Census 2022, the country’s fourth post-apartheid population and housing count. President Cyril Ramaphosa will receive the national results from Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) during an official ceremony at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
Census 2022, which marks the continuation of a series of censuses initiated in 1996, 2001, and 2011, was conducted in February 2022. It will provide comprehensive data on population size, demographic trends, and various aspects related to service delivery.
Stats SA will release the data in phases in line with international practice. The initial step, set for tomorrow, will encompass reports and indicators at the national, provincial, district, and local municipality levels.

The Presidency said that census data is a crucial resource for government and various sectors of society, supporting evidence-based decision-making and planning. Specifically, the census population count supplies vital information about the country’s demographic, economic, and social composition. Additionally, the findings derived from censuses play a pivotal role in monitoring and evaluating service delivery programs over time.
This release of Census 2022 data is poised to offer valuable insights into the present state and future trajectory of South Africa, enhancing the nation’s ability to formulate policies and initiatives that address the needs of its diverse population.
