Kaalfontein Multipurpose Centre Progresses to Second Construction Phase

The Kaalfontein Multipurpose Centre in Midrand, Region A, is making strides toward its vision of becoming a modern, integrated recreational hub. The first phase of development has been successfully completed, featuring a new soccer pitch, multipurpose court, grandstands, and essential infrastructure. Now, as phase two begins, the facility is set to offer a wide range of amenities for residents and visitors spanning 3236m2 as reported by Joburg Newsroom.

The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) is overseeing this project on behalf of the City of Johannesburg’s Community Development department, benefitting the local communities of Kaalfontein, Ebony Park, and Ivory Park. Phase one focused on constructing essential infrastructure elements such as platforms, perimeter fencing, service reticulations (water, sanitation, stormwater, electrical power), and a guardhouse.

The next phase will involve constructing the main facility, including a double-storey administration and office building, community hall, library, learning centre, offices, and additional community spaces. Once completed, the Kaalfontein Multipurpose Centre will cater to people of all ages, promoting health, well-being, and community engagement. Phase one introduced several key features, such as a soccer pitch, multipurpose courts, grandstands, and paved walkways.

Despite challenges, the project demonstrates the dedication and commitment of the JDA, bringing the community closer to an exceptional multipurpose centre. This initiative aligns with the City of Johannesburg’s 2040 Growth and Development Strategy, aiming to provide new social infrastructure, transform communities, foster skills growth, create employment opportunities, enhance quality of life, and increase access to recreational spaces.

The Kaalfontein Multipurpose Centre complements other JDA developments in the area, including the Kaalfontein Intersection Upgrade and the recently improved eco-friendly Kaalfontein Clinic.
