Body of Man Recovered From Dam in Daveyton
In a recent development, a dead body was recovered from a dam by police divers. He was estimated to be in his early 50s, from a dam near Mayfield Ext 5, Daveyton.
According to Sergeant Raider Ubisi, the spokesperson for Putfontein SAPS, law enforcement officers received a distress call, leading them to a grim discovery. They found the body of an unidentified man floating in the dam.
Ubisi shared, “The deceased was found clad only in blue short trousers, and there were no visible injuries on his body. A black T-shirt and a pair of black shoes were discovered not far from the dam.”
Authorities are currently operating under the suspicion that the man may have ventured to the dam to engage in ritualistic activity.

In response to this incident, Putfontein SAPS officially opened an inquest docket. The police are reaching out to the public, urging anyone with a missing family member or relative to come forward and contact Crimestop at 08600 10111.
In a separate and unrelated occurrence in Mayfield, a man was discovered deceased inside a vehicle. Reports indicate that community members had assaulted him and subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
Details regarding the circumstances leading to this incident remain unclear. However, a report revealed the man attempted to flee but was apprehended upon realising he had been seen.
Putfontein SAPS station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Wellington Mathiane, has vehemently condemned this incident. He fervently appeals to community members not to take matters into their own hands, stressing the importance of respecting the rule of law. Putfontein SAPS opened a murder case in connection with this matter.
