DA Accuses Rand Water of Lacking Transparency Amid Water Crisis
Solly Msimanga, a representative of the DA, has accused Rand Water of withholding critical information about the extent of the ongoing water scarcity crisis in Gauteng, which has affected the three major metropolitan areas. This lack of transparency, according to Msimanga, hampers municipalities’ ability to plan and ensure water delivery to residents as reported by Jacarandafm.

To address the situation, Rand Water recently announced the implementation of water shifting, a process designed to redistribute water from one system to another to ensure a balanced and equitable water supply.
Msimanga stressed the importance of Rand Water providing complete and transparent information to help municipalities better prepare and respond to water supply challenges. While acknowledging that municipalities also bear responsibility, he emphasised the need for open communication from Rand Water.
In response, Rand Water’s spokesperson, Makenosi Maroo, emphasised the entity’s commitment to engaging with all stakeholders constructively. Maroo reminded political parties, including the DA, that they should adhere to legislative and regulatory frameworks when conducting oversight visits to Rand Water.
This exchange highlights the ongoing challenges related to water scarcity and the importance of transparent communication between water authorities and local governments.
