Selam Gebre Clinches Victory in the Jozi Leg of the SPAR Grand Prix Series

Under the bright Johannesburg sun, Selam Gebre, an elite Ethiopian runner representing Nedbank Running Club, clinched victory at the SPAR Women’s Challenge Jozi.

Meanwhile, Ethiopian athlete Tadu Nare secured the SPAR Grand Prix series title by accumulating the most points throughout the six-race series.

In the Jozi race, Debash Kelati Desta and Irvette van Zyl claimed second and third place, respectively. Van Zyl, the first South African finisher, expressed gratitude for the supportive male runners and her enjoyment of the event.

Judy Bird, the Grandmaster winner in the 60+ category, described the year as challenging, battling a cold during the week. Despite her slower time, she praised the beautiful route through scenic leafy suburbs.

Blind runner Louzanne Coetzee and her guide Claus Kempen found the route challenging with numerous hills, unlike their usual terrain. They also noted the warmer conditions compared to previous races, making it a bit more demanding.
