Primrose CPF Chairperson Issues Caution Regarding Online Dating Apps

Tracy Enslin, the chairperson of the Primrose Community Policing Forum (CPF), is issuing a vital warning to the local community regarding the use of dating apps. Her concern primarily concerns the potential dangers of meeting strangers through these apps.

Enslin emphasises that in Primrose and nearby areas, there has been a noticeable increase in cases involving assault, robberies, and attempted rape, all linked to interactions originating from dating apps. She underscores the need for caution and vigilance when engaging with individuals met through these platforms.

To mitigate risks, Enslin advises individuals to activate the location setting on their phones or share their location with someone they trust by sending a pin drop when meeting someone from a dating app. She underscores the unfortunate reality that individuals encountered through dating apps may not always be who they claim to be, and some may have criminal intentions.

Enslin further highlights the significant potential dangers associated with meeting strangers, including the elevated risks of kidnapping, human trafficking, and scams. To assist in maintaining personal safety, she recommends a useful tool, the free app called “Life 360,” which can be downloaded to one’s phone. This app enables users to continuously track the whereabouts of their friends or family members, offering an extra layer of security and peace of mind.
