There has been a concerning rise in house robberies in Brakpan, and women are becoming the primary targets. In two separate incidents reported within two days, female victims experienced terrifying ordeals at the hands of criminals.

In the first incident in Roywen Street, Sunair Park, a woman found herself alone at home when an intruder accessed her property around 11:00. The armed assailant threatened her and ordered her to remain silent. He proceeded to tie her up and left her confined to a bedroom. The criminal made away with stolen items, including jewellery, a television, a gaming console, and various valuables. Shockingly, the perpetrators also made off with an Isuzu bakkie, which authorities later recovered partially stripped.

Another distressing incident unfolded in Dalview, along Devon Street, the following day. Two men arrived at a residence in a white bakkie at approximately 11:40, where they encountered a domestic worker. The criminals used a ruse, claiming they were there to provide a quotation. When the victim expressed confusion, as her employer had not informed her of any such arrangement, the men assured her they would contact her employer to confirm the appointment.

Seizing the opportunity, the criminals instructed the victim to open the gate and secure the dogs away, ostensibly to facilitate their work. Once inside the house, the men’s true intentions became evident. They seized the domestic worker in the dining room, restraining her by tying her hands and feet. The culprits then demanded jewellery and searched the premises before swiftly escaping.

Fortunately, the victim freed herself and promptly alerted her employer to the harrowing incident. However, the criminals had already made off with valuable loot, including two televisions and a radio.
