Malema: EFF’s shutdown plans are a peaceful protest

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema, has spoken out to defend his party’s decision to hold a national shutdown on Monday. Malema argued that load shedding, crime, and other problems plaguing the country were spiraling out of control, and that the EFF could not remain passive in the face of such challenges as reported by Eyewitness News.

In addition to the protest, the EFF has called for President Cyril Ramaphosa’s resignation.

Malema stressed that the EFF’s protest would be peaceful and that they were not encouraging looting or destruction of property. The party has already alerted airports, retail shops, law enforcement officials, and other stakeholders to ensure they are prepared for the demonstrations.

Malema dismissed the Democratic Alliance’s legal attempt to halt the gathering and accused them of trying to safeguard Ramaphosa. He further urged law enforcement officials to detain anyone who partakes in criminal activity during the protest, emphasizing that the EFF would cooperate with authorities to prevent any wrongdoing.

When asked about the locations of their planned marches across the country, Malema refused to respond to the media’s questions.
