Tshwane Temporarily Suspends Bus Services Due to Unforeseen Circumstances

The City of Tshwane was forced to suspend bus services again due to a troubling incident on Wednesday where several municipal vehicles were set on fire. According to eNCA, commuters were expecting a return of bus services in the city this week.

This suspension of services comes amidst a six-week-long wage strike led by members affiliated with the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) in the capital. The city has characterised these incidents as organised and coordinated attacks on critical infrastructure, intending to destabilise the metro.

The union has accused the council of not honouring the agreed-upon wage hike.

City officials have stated that bus operations will resume as soon as conditions permit. On Monday, the bargaining council dismissed the city’s attempt to avoid increasing worker salaries for the year, a decision the City plans to challenge through a review process.
