On the eve of the conclusion of National Women’s Month, which drew attention to the concerning levels of gender-based violence, authorities made a grim discovery in the Greenwood Park area. The bloodied body of 24-year-old Nothando Madubane, bearing multiple stab wounds, was found at a park on Kenville Road.

Nothando Madubane, who worked in the fashion industry, had left her home with plans to visit a hair salon in Berea while preparing for an upcoming trip abroad. She was supposed to meet potential suppliers in Turkey. Tragically, she never returned from her hair appointment.

Her brother, Mzamo, recounted his last conversation with her: “The last time I spoke to her was earlier that day, and she had said she was about to get an Uber to return home but never arrived. The most painful thing is how this has affected my mother.”

The Madubane family opened a missing person case and initiated a social media campaign to locate her. Eventually, an anonymous tip-off led them to contact the Greenwood Park police.

Upon visiting the police station, the family received the heartbreaking news that Nothando’s lifeless body was at the Phoenix Mortuary.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development expressed condolences to the Madubane family, stressing the need for a thorough investigation to uncover the details of her tragic passing.

The provincial police confirmed that a murder case is under investigation, and Greenwood Park SAPS is actively looking into the matter.

This devastating incident highlights gender-based violence in South Africa, especially concerning women’s safety.
