The primary objective of this event is to delve into the intersection of travel and technology and its potential to shape a more inclusive and sustainable future for tourism in Africa.

Airbnb has witnessed remarkable growth in its business in Kenya, with a substantial presence in major towns. This has significantly affected hotels and lodgings, resulting in a notable reduction in room prices and occupancy rates. Airbnb’s popularity in Kenya has revolutionised the hospitality industry by providing travellers with affordable and distinctive accommodation options. It has become the preferred choice for both solo travellers and groups, offering a diverse range of accommodations from apartments and houses to unique options like treehouses and even castles.

Velma Corcoran, Regional Lead Middle East Africa at Airbnb, expressed anticipation for the Africa Travel Summit, emphasising its aim to harness technology and innovation to benefit local families and communities involved in African travel. Corcoran highlighted the Summit’s role in fostering crucial discussions among industry stakeholders, policymakers, and change-makers to collaboratively construct a sustainable and inclusive tourism model that benefits all.

South Africa’s Minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille, will inaugurate the conference, with actress Zozibini Tunzi delivering the final keynote address. The event, moderated by Afua Osei, co-founder of She Leads Africa, is expected to explore the impact of tourism and technology in driving inclusive and sustainable economic growth across the continent.

Notable figures set to participate include Juliette Langlais, Airbnb’s Director of Public Policy and Campaigns for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, as well as Anita Mendiratta, Global Strategic Advisor on Tourism and development. Representatives from UNESCO and the WTTC will also be in attendance, alongside individuals leading efforts in inclusivity, sustainability, and tech regulation.

Speakers and delegates will share their experiences, research findings, and insights into best practices regarding the role of travel and technology in fostering a more inclusive and sustainable future. The program will feature interactive discussions, Change Maker sessions, and case study presentations, providing a comprehensive and engaging experience for participants.
