The Florida police and other law enforcement agencies conducted operations in Roodepoort to produce more arrests for illegal mining and related criminal activities. Several arrests occurred between August 22 and August 28.

In another operation in New Canada, mining sand and equipment related to illegal mining were seized. The discovery of explosives indicated the use of such equipment in illegal mining activities.
