The case of a kidnapped baby in Kingsway has a 30-year-old mother seeking the public’s assistance in locating her four-month-old daughter, Desire. Two women posing as auxiliary nurses allegedly kidnapped her on September 4.

The mother, Brilliant Museba, said these women offered her a job to look after a two-year-old boy during the day. Given her financial situation as a single mother, she accepted the offer and began caring for the child.

The two women built a friendly rapport with Museba, even praying with her for her situation to improve. On September 3, they suggested that Museba could get assistance from Far East Rand Hospital for baby essentials. The following day, they took her to catch a taxi to the hospital but instructed her not to go with them while they took Desire. They assured her they would meet her at another hospital and provided her with money for a taxi.

However, things took a sinister turn. When Museba reached Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, she could not contact the women. They had given her an SMS stating she would not see her child again because she had taken their sister’s husband and that they were taking Desire to their family in Zimbabwe.

The distressed mother reported the incident to the police. Describing the kidnappers as women wearing blue nurses’ uniforms, Museba and residents revealed that the women had also scammed others in the area.

The police are actively investigating the case and urge anyone with information to contact Detective Constable Ndanduleni at 082 822 7985 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
