Hendrik Potgieter Road Rebuild Set to Finish by End of November
The Roodepoort Parliamentary Constituency Office (PCO) of the ANC has expressed contentment with the ongoing advancements observed at the reconstruction site of the Hendrik Potgieter Road bridge. Tasked with evaluating the site’s conditions and recognising the impact on traffic flow and local communities, the management committee of the PCO conducted a site visit on August 21.

Parliament Members Parks Tau and Dr Gerhard Koornhof led the site inspection, during which the PCO’s management committee met with the contracted parties for direct insight into the reconstruction progress. The feedback received during the visit indicated that the PCO was generally pleased with the developments, including the contractor’s assurance to complete the bridge reconstruction by November of this year.
In a parallel endeavour to uphold transparency and information dissemination, a delegation from the Gauteng Legislature representing the Democratic Alliance (DA) conducted their own site visit on August 26. Collaborating with the contractors and officials overseeing the reconstruction, the DA delegation received similar assurances regarding the project’s timeline.
In a Facebook post, Ward 85 councillor Zoné Hughes conveyed the contractor’s affirmation that they remain on track for a November completion. He noted that a persisting concern involves heavy trucks continuing to use backroads despite signage and regulations, necessitating intervention from traffic law enforcement entities. Hughes announced plans for another site visit shortly to assess the progress personally.
The issue of large trucks utilising the backroads, with disregard for regulations, continues to persist and presents challenges that may last even until the construction’s conclusion. The WRAP residents association has taken an active role by consistently sending emails and exerting pressure on relevant entities to address traffic-related and other pertinent issues. This comprehensive retelling captures the ANC PCOs and DA’s engagement with the bridge reconstruction, addressing their assessments, efforts to monitor progress, and their shared concern regarding traffic issues within the context of the ongoing construction.
