New Witness Anticipated in Senzo Meyiwa Murder Trial
As it reconvenes today, the State will call another witness in the Senzo Meyiwa trial. Over the past month, a dozen witnesses have taken the stand to offer their accounts in the murder trial that has garnered widespread attention.
EWN reports that the trial centres on the tragic 2014 murder of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa. Two intruders fatally shot Meyiwa during an alleged home invasion. Currently, five individuals are on trial for Meyiwa’s murder.

During Monday’s proceedings, the spotlight again fell on accused number 3, Mthobisi Mncube. Police officers testifying in the case recounted arresting Mncube at his residence in 2015 in connection with a separate murder case involving a taxi boss from Alexandra. Mncube was subsequently convicted and sentenced to over 30 years in prison. However, his alleged involvement in the Meyiwa shooting only emerged after discovering potentially incriminating photos and call records on his confiscated phone.
Among the evidence found on Mncube’s phone were images that appeared to match the profile of one of the alleged intruders at the Vosloorus residence where Meyiwa lost his life. While Mncube contested ownership of the handgun found in his possession in 2015, the State plans to bolster its case by calling Mncube’s former girlfriend as a witness.
The ongoing trial has captured the nation’s attention and raised crucial questions about justice and accountability.
